Staff Sgt. Gary Beals, chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear defense instructor and Metaric, La., native with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit, describes the process of securing the newly issued M-50 gas mask before passing the alarm for gas during an annual CBRN class aboard Camp Lejeune, N.C., Aug. 25, 2010. The MEU received required CBRN training which culminated in familiarization with the newly issued M-50 gas mask. The MEU was the first major subordinate command in the Marine Corps on the east coast to receive the new M-50 gas mask for training. The annual training is designed to instill confidence in the mask and ensure the Marines know the proper procedures in the event of a CBRN attack. (Official Marine Corps photo by Lance Cpl. John M.
