U.S. Army Spc. Leonardo Vasquez, a Paratrooper assigned to the 54th Brigade Engineer Battalion, 173rd Airborne Brigade, sweeps the ground for simulated explosive devices with a metal detector while conducting an area reconnaissance mission during the Company Squad Competition at Caserma Del Din, Vicenza, Italy Feb. 3, 2017. During the one-day event, squads will also complete an 11km road march with full combat load, a combat-related physical training event, warrior task testing and medical evacuation training. The 173rd Airborne Brigade based in Vicenza, Italy, is the Army Contingency Response Force in Europe, and is capable of projecting forces to conduct the full of range of military operations across the United State European, Central and Africa Commands areas of responsibility.
