Christopher Russell, a landing support specialist, attaches the apex to a lifting hook on a CH-53E Super Stallion during a helicopter external load training evaluation at Arta Beach, Djibouti, Feb. 16. The apex is a D shaped device connecting the sling to the lifting hook. The role of hook man is to ensure the apex is properly secured onto the lifting hook.
