Lieutenant Col. Melanie Bell-Carter presents the Excellence in Leadership Award to Robert Porcher's father, who accepted the award on his behalf, during the MEAC Hall of Fame Brunch on March 9, 2017. Porcher was a standout defensive end for the South Carolina State University Bulldogs before he made history as the first bulldog to be drafted in the first round of the NFL Draft. Porcher also is a community leader, he currently has a foundation for cancer research and relief that raises thousands of dollars at the University of Michigan. The MEAC partnership provides the United States Marine Corps with an opportunity to celebrate the hard work, courage, and commitment to excellence exhibited by its many participants. Bell-Carter currently serves as the Assistant Chief of Staff, G-1, Marine Combat Development Command.
