Lance Cpl. Nathanael Shoemate, an unmanned aerial vehicle maintainer for Marine Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Squadron 1, Marine Air Control Group 38, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing (Forward), prepares a UAV RQ-7B "Shadow" for launch, Sept. 22. The UAV's mission is to provide surveillance and collect reconnaissance and intelligence information for troops on the ground. There are six Shadows based here that typically carry out five missions a day.
