    Special Operations Command South

Navy Rear Adm. Thomas L. Brown II holds the U.S. Special Operations Command South unit colors after Air Force Gen. Douglas Fraser (left), combatant commander of U.S. Southern Command, hands it to him. The passing of the colors officially made Brown the new commander of SOCSOUTH during the change of command ceremony, Sept. 17 at Homestead Air Reserve Base, Fla. Brown assumed command from Army Brig. Gen. Hector E. Pagan, who had served as the unit’s commander since July 2008. As a subordinate component for Special Operations under the U.S. Southern Command, SOCSOUTH's mission is to plan, prepare, and when directed, conduct special operations in support of SOUTHCOM strategies, plans, and operations.
