AUSTIN – (March 21, 2017) To honor Vietnam veterans during Navy Week Austin, the U.S. Navy Ceremonial Guard Drill Team performed during a wreath-laying ceremony at the Texas Capitol Vietnam Veterans Memorial Monument. In attendance were Vice Adm. Raquel Bono, director, Defense Health Agency joined by Navy Vice Chief of Information Rear Adm. Robert Durand, local area Sailors, Texas Association of Vietnam Veterans, and Texas state representatives. Stationed in Washington, D.C., members of the Drill Team are experts in the art of close order drill, coordination, and timing. The Drill Team is invited to perform at a variety of events, including local and national holiday and armed forces observances, schools, universities, conventions, and Navy related events such as ship commissioning ceremonies, changes of command, and retirements. Ending March 24, Navy Week Austin is the second of 15 Navy Weeks in 2017 which focus a variety of assets, equipment, and personnel on a single city for a weeklong series of engagements designed to bring America's Navy closer to the people it protects.
