Karl Kerr, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District geographer, provides instructions on how to use Real Time Kinematic (RTK) equipment to Benjamin Pratt, Susquehanna River Basin Commission water resources engineer, prior to surveying Swatara Creek, a tributary of the Susquehanna River in east central Pennsylvania, March 9, 2017. The Commission is collaborating on a project with the Baltimore District to provide survey data and modeling and mapping information to the Federal Emergency Management Agency Region III that will help FEMA update their flood risk maps. Baltimore District will compile data from the RTK equipment from both bridge and bank surveys to determine potential flood extents and depths and delineate the floodplain and regulatory floodway boundaries in the watershed under various flood events.
