A small, yet effective layer of protection, is the air ionizer. There is at least one of these devices at every work station in the countermeasure facilities. It rids the small work area of any static electricity that would have been on the material, tools or the work station. During these operations, operators also wear a special type of glove that protects against static build up. Between those two precautions alone, the likelihood of static igniting the material dramatically decreases, making the operation much safer for CAAA operators.
