Lt. Gen. David H. Berger visits a temple at the Joint Security Area in South Korea on April 3, 2017, during the Pacific Amphibious Leaders Symposium. Berger is the U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Pacific commander. The JSA is the only portion of the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) where North and South Korean forces stand face-to-face. The JSA is used for diplomatic purposes and is occupied by both North and South Korea. The purpose of PALS is to bring together senior leaders of allied and partner militaries with an interest in amphibious operations and capability development. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Lance Cpl.
