Sgt. Michael Graff with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 135th Infantry, of Mankato, Minn., helps Soldiers practice visual signaling techniques during the patrol lane portion of the U.S. Army’s Expert Infantry Badge (EIB) testing phase to ensure candidates have thrown the grenade the proper distance at Camp Blanding in Starke, Fla., on April 5. Iowa Army National Guard Soldiers with the 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 34th Infantry Division, and Minnesota Army National Guard Soldiers with the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 34th Infantry Division – each sporting the 34th Infantry Division Red Bull patch – traveled to Florida to participate in more than 30 rigorous events in pursuit of the prestigious EIB. With a pass rate of just 18 percent, the EIB is difficult to earn on a candidate's first try. Graff, and many others like him, volunteer to aid in the training of remaining candidates once they’ve been disqualified. (U.S. Army National Guard photo by Sgt. Christie R. Smith)
