USS MAKIN ISLAND, Gulf of Aden (Feb. 13, 2017) U.S. Marine Cpl. Esmeralda Martinezgarcia, a flight equipment technician, runs during a half a marathon race aboard the USS Makin Island (LHD 8) in the Gulf of Aden, Feb. 13. Runs on the flight deck provide a great opportunity to exercise outside in the fresh air and sunlight and are a popular morale booster for Marines and Sailors on deployment. The 11th MEU, part of the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, is operating in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility in support security and stability in the region.
