USS MAKIN ISLAND, Gulf of Aden (Feb. 13, 2017) U.S. Marines and Sailors with the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group/11th Marine Expeditionary Unit run in a half a marathon race aboard the USS Makin Island (LHD 8) in the Gulf of Aden, Feb. 13. Runs on the flight deck provide a great opportunity to get some exercise outside in the fresh air and are a popular morale booster for Marines and Sailors on deployment. The 11th MEU is currently supporting U.S. 5th Fleet’s mission to promote and maintain stability and security in the region while underway during their West-Pac 16-2 deployment.
