Cpl. Thomas B. Brinkerhoff, bridge master in training with Bridge Platoon, Company A, 9th Engineer Support Battalion, 1st Marine Logistics Group (Forward), measures the distance from each bank while his platoon conducts an engineer reconnaissance mission in the Garmsir District, central Helmand province, Afghanistan, Oct. 29. The purpose of the recon mission was to gather information that will benefit the platoon when they conduct future bridge builds. The information was instrumental in coordinating the missions.
