JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska -- A U.S. Air Force F-15 Eagle from Nellis Air Force Base, Nev., returns to JBER May 8, 2017, in support of Exercise Northern Edge 2017. The JBER fire department responded to a call for an in-flight emergency (IFE) from the tower upon the aircraft’s approach for landing. The IFE was a minor mechanical error, but the fire department responds the same to all IFEs. Northern Edge is Alaska’s largest and premier joint training exercise designed to practice operations, techniques and procedures, as well as enhance interoperability among the services. Thousands of participants from all the services—Airmen, Soldiers, Sailors, Marines and Coast Guard personnel from active duty, Reserve and National Guard units—are involved.
