JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska -- A U.S. Air Force F-22 Raptor departs the runway May 9, 2017, while a U.S. Navy F-18 Super Hornet and another F-22 crawl up the ramp in preparation for takeoff. The aircraft are flying in support of Exercise Northern Edge 2017, which is Alaska’s largest and premier joint training exercise designed to practice operations, techniques and procedures, as well as enhance interoperability among the services. Thousands of participants from all the services—Airmen, Soldiers, Sailors, Marines and Coast Guard personnel from active duty, Reserve and National Guard units—are involved.
