PACIFIC OCEAN (May 12, 2017) Marines assigned to 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) depart the amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8) in combat rubber raid craft during a personnel and equipment offload. Makin Island, the flagship of the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, with the embarked 11th MEU, is returning to Southern California from a seven-month deployment to the U.S. 3rd, 5th and 7th Fleet areas of operation.
