PACIFIC OCEAN (May 12, 2017) Marines of the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) prepare to depart the amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8) aboard Landing Craft Air Cushion (LCAC) 32, assigned to Assault Craft Unit 5. Makin Island, the flagship of the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, with the embarked 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, is returning to Southern California from a seven-month deployment to the U.S. 3rd, 5th and 7th Fleet areas of operation.
