Cpl. Christopher Parker, a combat cargo Marine assigned to USS Mesa Verde (LPD 19), executes a straight thrust technique with a training knife while being evaluated by Sgt. Brandi K. Rojas, a Marine Corps Martial Arts Program (MCMAP) brown belt level instructor assigned to the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), to earn a gray belt, the second level belt of five belts in MCMAP aboard the amphibious transport dock ship May 17, 2017. The 24th MEU is underway with the Bataan Amphibious Ready Group in support of maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations.
