SAN DIEGO (June 13, 2017) – U.S. Navy Capt. Yvette Davids, assistant chief of staff at Commander, U.S. 3rd Fleet, addresses the crew of Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Spruance (DDG 111) during a ceremony where U.S. Coast Guard Capt. Matthew J. Gimple, chief of staff at Commander, 11th Coast Guard District, presented a Coast Guard Meritorious Team Commendation on behalf of Commander, 14th Coast Guard District to Spruance and the “Scorpions” of Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 49 for contributions during Oceania Maritime Security Initiative (OMSI) 2016. The OMSI program is a cooperative service strategy designed to increase overall theater security in Oceania through maritime enforcement of transitional crime and participation in partnership engagements.
