Bill Gerety, the event brought several dozen “Gold Star” families of deceased Soldiers from more than 200 miles to the Columbia, S.C. area for several hours to remember and celebrate those who were lost. Phillip’s uncle, Staff Sgt. Ronald Phillips Jr., 3, of Conway, S.C., died Sept. 25, 2008.
