Sgt. 1st Class Roland Benevidez, a platoon sergeant for Charlie Company, 6th Brigade Engineer Battalion, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division takes a break from directing satellite equipment operation to pose for a photo at Joint Readiness Training Center, Fort Polk, Louisiana, June 17.
"I'm not only a dad, I'm also a platoon dad," Benavidez said. "You have to take care of your soldiers as you would your own kids, constantly looking out for them, keeping them safe and making sure they are doing the right thing; pretty much the same as being a parent. Basic Dad 101 skills. People in this brigade probably had tough dads, to be honest. They do things that regular soldiers in the army don't get to do so it's clear they come from strong backgrounds."
