KING GEORGE, Va. (June 28, 2017) - Middle school students brief their mentor, Jennifer Testa, on how they overcame technical hurdles to ensure the robot they built will expeditiously locate mines and deliver supplies to troops in fictitious scenarios at the 2017 Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division sponsored STEM Summer Academy. Testa spoke to parents attending the event about STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) opportunities, including high school and college internships available throughout Navy and Department of Defense laboratories. This year, STEM campers caught a glimpse of the real-world applications during their NSWCDD tour, featuring technologies and facilities that included the electromagnetic railgun, laser lethality laboratory, the Potomac River Test Range, vehicle integration technologies, and the F-14 ground plane used for testing and evaluating hazards of electromagnetic radiation to ordnance.
