Wildlife Biologist Tim Wilder of the Directorate of Public Works Natural Resources Branch determines the sex of a 5-foot bull snake April 14, 2015, while volunteer John Polk holds the snake. The work was part of a survey Wilder is conducting to determine the health of bull snakes on Fort McCoy, Wis. As part of the survey, Wilder checks length, weight, and age and implants a microchip used to identify the snake in future surveys. The largest bull snake Wilder has measured in previous surveys was more than 6 feet long. (U.S. Army Photo by Scott T. Sturkol, Public Affairs Office, Fort McCoy, Wis.)
