170720-N-RU971-327 CORAL SEA (July 20, 2017) Royal Australian Navy Leading Seaman Marine Technician Nathan Pickersgill, assigned to the amphibious assault ship HMAS Canberra (L02), from Melbourne, Australia, removes a boiler burner barrel under the guidance of Machinist’s Mate 2nd Class Mason Housley, from Cincinnati, in the forward main machinery room aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6), as part of a crew exchange ship tour during Talisman Saber 17. While aboard, the Australian Sailors had the opportunity to learn about U.S. amphibious operations at sea, building on long-standing alliances between the two Navies. Talisman Saber is a biennial U.S.-Australian bilateral exercise held off the coast of Australia meant to achieve interoperability and strengthen the U.S.-Australian alliance.
