CAMP COURTNEY, OKINAWA, Japan— Lt. Col. Pat P. Vongsavanh, left, and Petty Officer 3rd Class Elgie E. McCoy Jr. pose for a photo in the fire department July 31 aboard Camp Courtney, Okinawa, Japan. McCoy came to the aid of a distressed woman in labor July 16 in the fire department. He helped her deliver the baby with assistance from two firefighters. After the baby was delivered, the men safely transported the happy family to the U.S. Naval Hospital Okinawa aboard Camp Foster. Three certificates of appreciation were presented to the men who helped a mother safely deliver her baby. Vongsavanh is the executive officer of Camp Courtney and McTureous. McCoy, a New Brunswick, New Jersey, native, is an emergency medical technician at the Marine Corps Installations Pacific Fire Department aboard Camp Courtney, and a corpsman in the emergency medical department at the USNH.
