NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (Aug. 21, 2017) Chief petty officers (CPO) and CPO selectees assigned to the aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73) sort canned goods during a volunteer event at the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank. CPO Selectees volunteered at the foodbank as part of a community relations project during phase II of CPO 365. George Washington is undergoing a refueling and complex overhaul (RCOH) at Newport News Shipyard. RCOH is a four-year project performed only once during a carrier’s 50-year service life that includes refueling of the ship’s two nuclear reactors as well as significant repair, upgrades and modernization.
