(Aug. 21, 2017) Aviation Structural Mechanic 1st Class Richard Sardinha, a chief petty officer (CPO) selectee from Somersworth, New Hampshire, and assigned to the aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73), cleans during a volunteer opportunity at the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank. CPO Selectees volunteered at the Foodbank as part of a community relations project during Phase ll of CPO 365. George Washington is undergoing a refueling and complex overhaul (RCOH) at Newport News Shipyard. RCOH is a nearly four-year project performed only once during a carrier’s 50-year service life that includes refueling of the ship’s two nuclear reactors, as well as significant repair, upgrades and modernization.
