U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Galveston District, Commander Col. Christopher W. Sallese visits the new jetty (completed in October 2010) located at the Lower Colorado River Authority Matagorda Bay Nature Park and reviews the dredging project at the mouth of the Colorado River in Matagorda County, Texas. Once completed, the project will improve navigation safety and allow for the passage of recreational boats, commercial fishing and shrimp boats. The $20.4 million contract awarded Sept. 2, 2009, was funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, and is one of 20 ARRA projects totaling $298 million in the Galveston District.
