U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Galveston District, is currently dredging the mouth of the Colorado River to improve navigation safety. Once completed, the project will improve navigation safety and allow for the passage of recreational boats, commercial fishing and shrimp boats. The $20.4 million dredging and jetty contract awarded Sept. 2, 2009, was funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, and is one of 20 ARRA projects totaling $298 million in the Galveston District.
