POHAKULOA TRAINING AREA, HAWAII -- Lance Cpl. Spencer Cahoon, an assaultman with India Company, 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, tosses a grappling hook at a concertina wire obstacle to clear a route for amphibious assault vehicles during a platoon live-fire event at Pohakuloa Training Area August 23, 2017. The training event, a part of Exercise Bougainville II, consisted of a platoon-size force being transported by AAV’s to a staging area, then assaulting an enemy position with support from 60 mm mortars and a machine gun emplacement. Exercise Bougainville II prepares 3/3 for service as a forward deployed force in the Pacific by training them to fight as a ground combat element in a Marine Air-Ground Task Force.
