CORAL SEA (Sept. 9, 2017) Marines assigned to the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (31st MEU) fire a Stinger Tracking and Launch Simulator from the port aircraft elevator of the amphibious assault ship USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6). The Stinger is a portable, infrared, homing, surface-to-air missile capable of tracking and engaging aircraft up to an altitude of 10,000 feet and covering distances up to five miles. Bonhomme Richard is the flagship of its expeditionary strike group, which is operating in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region to enhance partnerships and be a ready-response force for any type of contingency.
