U.S. 5TH FLEET AREA OF OPERATIONS (Sept. 12, 2017) - Logistics Specialist 1st Class Kevin Smith, a native of Chula Vista, California, assigned to repair locker 6/7A aboard the amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6), assembles a portable electronic advanced rescue system in the hangar bay as part of damage control training while deployed off the coast of Djibouti, Africa, in support of Alligator Dagger. America is the flagship for the America Amphibious Ready Group and, with the embarked 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit, is deployed in support of maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations.
