In this image released by the Texas Military Forces, Air National Guard Maj. Gen. John Nichols addresses troops and special guests during a change-of-command ceremony at Camp Mabry, Texas, Saturday, March 12. The ceremony was held for the position of the adjutant general, the senior military commander responsible for leading more than 24,000 members of the Texas Military Forces, which includes the Texas Army National Guard, Texas Air National Guard, and Texas State Guard. As part of the event, Army National Guard Maj. Gen. Jose Mayorga relinquished command to Nichols. Change-of-command ceremonies illustrate the orderly transition of authority, which is a key component of readiness.
