Retired U.S. Marine Corps Staff Sgt. Eric Smith is awarded the Navy Cross by U.S. Marine Corps Maj. Gen. Paul J. Kennedy, Commanding General of Marine Corps Recruiting Command, for courageous actions in 2004 while in 2004 while serving as a squad leader with Company E, Second Battalion, Fourth Marine Regiment, First Marine Division, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
