U.S. Marine Corps Maj. Gen. Paul J. Kennedy, Commanding General of Marine Corps Recruiting Command, provides remarks in Irving, TX, Sept. 14, 2017, after awarding retired Staff Sgt. Eric Smith the Navy Cross for his courageous actions in 2004 while serving as a squad leader with Company E, Second Battalion, Fourth Marine Regiment, First Marine Division, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Kennedy was the battalion commander of Second Battalion, Fourth Marine Regiment during the time of Smith’s citation.
