U.S. Air Force 1st Lt. James Cazort, a Rowlett, Texas, native and medical services corps officer, 95th Medical Wing, Joint Base San Antonio - Fort Sam Houston, Texas, meets with Brandon Bond, deputy team leader, Disaster Medical Assistant Team CA-6, San Francisco Bay Area, Saint Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, Sept. 16, 2017, to establish a surgical unit outside the Schneider Regional Medical Center. Airmen, part of a surgical medical team, are augmenting the soldiers of the 602nd ASMC to provide triage, a variety of medical treatments, and pre-evacuation care after Hurricane Irma caused major damage to the local hospital. The Department of Defense conducts Defense Support of Civil Authorities operations to assist civilian responders in saving lives, relieving human suffering and mitigating property damage in response to a catastrophic disaster.
