A KC-130J Super Hercules cargo aircraft loaded with chairs, tables, desks and generators, takes off from Marine Corps Air Station Futenma bound for Naval Air Station Atsugi March 14, in support of Operation Tomodachi. This is the first of three aircraft carrying personnel from 7th Communications Battalion, III Marine Expeditionary Force Headquarters Group, III MEF during humanitarian assistance operations in response to the 9.0 magnitude earthquake and subsequent tsunami that struck Japan March 11. MCAS Futenma’s proximity to logistics and ground units has allowed Marines from III MEF to rapidly deploy critically-needed supplies and aid to support the relief effort.
