Chemical Biological Radioactive and Nuclear Marines from I Marine Expeditionary Force stationed at Camp Pendleton, Calif., join the relief efforts by checking for possible surface contaminants on family members’ luggage March 21 during the authorized voluntary departure. The family members were allowed to take one 50-pound bag and a carry-on per person, as well as any necessary children’s items, as they left their homes, headed to the continental U.S. Due to damage as a result of the earthquake and tsunami that occurred in Japan, the Secretary of Defense in consultation with the Secretary of State has authorized voluntary departure for family members of service members from the island of Honshu, Japan.
