Tom Lemere, a U.S. Air Force Reserve senior master sergeant and an American Red Cross volunteer, documents damage in Utuado, Puerto Rico, Oct. 5, 2017, where a section of the road has broken off. Lemere, a native of Saratoga Springs, New York, assigned to the 541th Air Mobility Wing based at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J., is part of a team of local, stateside and international volunteers who delivered tarps, food, water, and assessed damage in the town. The Department of Defense, Federal Emergency Management Agency and other organizations have joined efforts to assist civil authorities in Puerto Rico to provide disaster relief after Hurricane Maria.
