Six CH-47 Chinook helicopters from the 2-501st General Support Aviation Battalion arrived at Puerto Rico by October 11, 2017 to support the relief efforts following Hurricane Maria. Partially dismantled in order to fit two to a flight on the C5 Galaxy aircraft and transported by the Air Mobility Command, the maintenance crews from the 2-501st GSAB and the 127th Aviation Support Battalion now work to prepare them for flight. Once reassembled , these helicopters will maximize the unit's ability to move tens of thousands of pounds of FEMA relief supplies to isolated residents throughout Puerto Rico. The CAB is committed to using these additional capabilities to assist the local and federal agencies responding to the needs of Puerto Rico.
