Maintenance crews from the 2-501st General Support Aviation Battalion and the 127th Aviation Support Battalion work around the clock October 11, 2017 reassembling the two CH-47 Chinook helicopters flown to Puerto Rico on a C5 Galaxy aircraft, and prepare for the additional 2 arriving in the next 24 hours. The Chinooks must be partially disassembled to fit two at a time on the aircraft, and then reassembled at the destination; a significant undertaking which displays the remarkable expertise of our maintenance crews. The 1st Armored Division Combat Aviation Brigade will have a total of 6 Chinooks within the week which will maximize the unit's ability to move tens of thousands of pounds of FEMA relief supplies to isolated villages following the damage from Hurricane Maria. The CAB is honored to put these additional capabilities to use in assisting the local and federal agencies responding to the needs of Puerto Rico.
