Visitors to the Trinity Site look at the remains of “Jumbo,” a device scientists were going to put around the world’s first atomic bomb but decided not to, during an open house at White Sands Missile Range, N.M., Oct. 7, 2017. Jumbo was located about 800 yards from the bomb when it went off.
