CAMP FOSTER, OKINAWA, Japan – The golden ball opens, releasing colorful balloons and paper confetti, symbolizing the start of the Naha Giant Tug-of-War Festival Oct. 8 in Naha, Okinawa, Japan. The tug-of-war symbolizes the Eastern and Western dynasties fighting for control in the 17th century. The East side won this time, giving them bragging rights for the year.
