U.S. Marine Corps recruits of Fox Company, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion, finish the last stretch of a nine-mile hike Aug. 30, 2017, on Parris Island, S.C. Following the hike, recruits earned their Eagle, Globe and Anchor emblems and the title Marine, making this the defining moment of the previous weeks of arduous training. Fox Company is scheduled to graduate Sept. 8, 2017. Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 19,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 12 weeks of rigorous, transformative training.
