U.S. Marine Corps Gunnery Sgt. Andrew Cordero, company first sergeant of Fox Company, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion, speaks to the new Marines Aug. 30, 2017, on Parris Island, S.C. Cordero, 33, from Bronx, N.Y., spoke of the significance of earning the title Marine and how the Marines of Fox Company must uphold the values and traditions that were taught during recruit training. Fox Company is scheduled to graduate Sept. 8, 2017. Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 19,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 12 weeks of rigorous, transformative training.
