JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Oct. 18, 2017) – Nathan Pham, a pharmacist intern from the University of Florida, checks Bertina Ingram’s blood pressure during a Pharmacy Week event at Naval Hospital Jacksonville on Oct. 18. High blood pressure is a direct contributor to heart disease. Many people don’t have signs or symptoms but are still at risk. Risk factors include a family history (of high blood pressure), smoking, diabetes, high cholesterol, or being overweight. Exercise, eating more fruits and vegetables, and lowering salt intake can help, but sometimes medication is needed. Talk with your Primary Care Manager to see if you have, or are at risk for, high blood pressure. (U.S. Navy photo by Jacob Sippel, Naval Hospital Jacksonville/Released).
