Seaman Christopher Koch, a quartermaster, hoists the “Romeo” flag during a connected replenishment at sea with USNS Big Horn (T-AO 198) aboard the amphibious dock landing ship USS Whidbey Island (LSD 41). Romeo is flown when a ship is preparing to replenish at sea. The Whidbey Island is part of the Bataan Amphibious Ready Group, which deployed ahead of its original schedule in order to relieve units from the Kearsage Amphibious Ready Group in the Mediterranean.
