171111-N-RP435-114 SAN DIEGO (Nov. 11, 2017) Sailors from Naval Base San Diego compete in a five on five basketball competition during the Junior National Basketball Association (Jr. NBA) Navy Tip-Off Celebration. Naval Base San Diego Morale Welfare and Recreation (MWR) hosted the event at the Admiral Prout Field House where the Jr. NBA conducted a youth basketball camp and a Hoops for Troops competition. Professional basketball players Troy Murphy and Michael Cooper coached the teams as part of the Jr. NBA’s effort to mentor military personnel and youth. The Jr. NBA is working with the military to expand its engagement and enhance its ability to positively impact military youth via health, fitness, and character benefits that come from playing basketball through a variety of programs, events and benefits.
