Phil Davidson, commander of U.S. Fleet Forces Command, and ship's sponsor of the future Independence-class littoral combat ship USS Kansas City (LCS 22), and Austal USA A-class welder Adan Silva-Garibay etches her initials into the ship's keel plate during a keel laying ceremony at the Austal USA shipyard. The keel laying ceremony symbolically recognizes the joining of modular components and the ceremonial beginning of the ship.
